Collegiate career

Football

2005 season

Jarrett Brown chose West Virginia University to go to college at, over schools such as Minnesota, North Carolina State, and South Florida. Brown sat out his freshman season behind redshirt-junior Pat White, who went on to lead the team to the Sugar Bowl and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl along with junior running back Steve Slaton.

2006 season

Brown came in as a redshirt freshman, assuming the main backup role with junior quarterback Adam Bednarik injured and fellow-redshirt freshman Nate Sowers playing third-string and getting time at receiver. Brown's first major playing time came against Eastern Washington University, when White had led the Mountaineers to an obvious win. Brown threw for 129 yards and his first career touchdown. Brown didn't see much more time during the season, until the regular season finale against Rutgers, who were tied with West Virginia for second in the Big East, both behind Louisville. With White out due to an ankle injury suffered in the USF contest a week prior, Brown assumed the starting role. In probably the most thrilling game of the season, aside from the bowl game against Georgia Tech, Brown led the Mountaineers to a 41-39 triple overtime win over the Scarlet Knights. Brown threw for 244 yards and 1 TD, and rushed for 73 yards and a score on the ground as well. Brown's passing score came in triple overtime to Brandon Myles on 2nd and 7, to give the Mountaineers the lead. Brown became an overtime hero, preserving a 10-win season and a second-place title in the conference. "We have every confidence in Jarrett Brown," Former West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said. "He did a great job of using the opportunity he was given. I'm really proud of Jarrett and the way he kept his composure." 2008 season

To begin his junior season as Pat White's backup, Brown saw minimal time in the Villanova victory to open the season. In the following two losses against ECU and Colorado, Brown also saw little time. In the 27-3 victory over Marshall, Brown saw time during the first half at quarterback, with White moving out to either receiving or runningback. Brown also came back into the game in the third quarter to finish for the injured White. In the game, Brown completed 5 of 7 passes for 44 yards and an interception and rushed 8 times for 78 yards. He finished the game with 122 total yards.
