Lola Bobesco (
August 9 ,1921 ,Craiova ,Romania –September 4 ,2003 ,Spa, Belgium ) was a Belgianviolinist of Romanian origin.She began her career as a child prodigy, giving her first recital at the age of 6 together with her father. She gained her first prize at the
Conservatoire de Paris in 1934. She became known internationally after obtaining the seventh prize at theEugène Ysaÿe contest, in 1937. She founded in 1958 theOrchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie .She was also a professor at the French-speaking "Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles" and was part of the jury of the "Queen Elizabeth contest" in 1971 and 1993. She recorded
sonata s ofLudwig van Beethoven ,Gabriel Fauré ,Johannes Brahms ,César Franck andClaude Debussy and alsobaroque music .The street 'Rue Lola Bobesco' that encircles behind the cultural center at the Brussels commune of
Woluwe-Saint-Lambert , is her namesake.
