Susan Weber Soros (born
1954 ,Brooklyn ,New York City ) is the founder and director of theBard Graduate Center (BGC) for studies in thedecorative art s, design, and culture in New York City.Weber studied at
Barnard College , theParsons School of Design , and theRoyal College of Art where she gained herPhD in 1998 with a thesis on the furniture ofE.W. Godwin . On 1993, she established theBard Graduate Center , offering graduate degrees in the history of the decorative and applied arts, cultural and design history, and garden history and landscape studies. She is Professor in the History of the Decorative Arts at the BGC.Prior to establishing the BGC, Weber was Executive Director of the
Open Society , the umbrella name for some 24 independent foundations that support the advancement of freedom of expression around the globe. The Open Society also supports cultural exchange through grants to individuals and associations.In 1983, Weber married the primary contributor to the
Open Society ,hedge fund billionaire George Soros . They have two children, Alexander and Gregory. They separated in 2004 and are now divorced.External links
