America Votes

America Votes

America Votes is a coalition of the largest membership-based progressive groups in the country, representing a broad range of issues including the environment, civil and human rights, choice, education and labor. America Votes works with 48 national and more than 260 state-based partner organizations. By amplifying the collective impact of these organizations, America Votes increases the number of progressive voters, provides them with more detailed information on the issues, and gets them to the voting booth on Election Day. In addition, the coalition of partners works to ensure that activists and voters are contacted and engaged year-round about the critical issues of the progressive movement.

Ultimately, the mission of America Votes is to ensure that the traditionally cyclical practice of voter education is transformed into a permanent, progressive infrastructure.

Martin Frost serves as President. Greg Speed serves as Executive Director.

America Votes has offices in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia,Wisconsin, and Washington, DC.

ources of funding

According to New York Times reporter Matt Bai, America Votes was established by the "three families" of George Soros, Peter Lewis and Herb and Marion Sandler to "coordinate various get-out-the-vote drives during the 2004 election." [ [http://www.mattbai.com/argument-book "The Argument: Billionaires, Bloggers, and the Battle to Remake Democratic Politics"] ] Bai also reports that at the October 2005 meeting of the Democracy Alliance at the Chateau Elan near Atlanta, Georgia, America Votes "was slated to received at least $5.5 million for the next election cycle alone".
