The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is a private
marina andsailing club founded in 1914 and located on the shore of Lake St. Clair inGrosse Pointe Shores, Michigan . It originated in 1914 through the efforts of a group of 25 sailing and iceboating enthusiasts.The club is prominently visible and a well-known landmark along the shoreline of the lake north of Detroit. Italian Renaissance -style clubhouse was designed by Bostonarchitect Guy Lowell and dedicated onJuly 4 ,1929 . The clubhouse featuresstucco and red tile roof and a 187-ft bell tower, which serves as a navigational aid for boaters on the lake.Amenities of the club, besides the marina itself, include a bowling alley open from September until May, several clay
tennis courts, two lightedpaddle tennis courts and asailing center with a large fleet of club owned sail boats.The club has 3 restaurants the spinnaker, the binnacle and the main the dining room. The main ballroom can serve food as well but does not have access to the kitchen.
