Eustorgio Salgar (
1 November 1831 -25 November 1885 ) was aColombia ngeneral andpolitical figure , who was president of theGranadine Confederation from April 1870 until April 1872.Salgar attended what would later become the
National University of Colombia , graduating in 1851. From 1853 he served as the governor of the Garcia Rovira province, and when it was merged withPamplona in 1855 he assumed the new role of governor of the newly combined province until 1858. During that year, Salgar was a member of the briefly livedGranadine Confederation 's senate, and a year later became governor ofSovereign State of Santander .During the civil war from 1860 until 1862, Santander sided against the central government, and after defeat Salgar and the cabinet were briefly imprisoned before being released in 1861. In 1862 Salgar was re-elected as president of Santander in the capital of
Bucaramanga . Following his third term as president, Salgar became ambassador to the United States of America until 1867. In 1870, when he was elected as president of Colombia after having served a brief term as vice-president, he became the youngest person ever to assume the position, and served as president until April 1872.
