Transport for London contracted bus route inLondon ,United Kingdom . The service is currently contracted to Metrobus.History
The origins of route 127 can be traced back to route 155 which started in 1926 running from Morden station to Worcester Park station; one of five feeder routes opened along with the extension of the Underground railway (now the
Northern Line ) to Morden. By 1930 the route had been renumbered the 155B, and it extended from Worcester Park to Raynes Park and South Wimbledon, making it almost a circle. The single decker buses on the route were based at Sutton garage. The route came back to life in its current form in 1981 replacing the self contained section of the 77 between Tooting Broadway and Wallington, the other section had for a long time operated between Tooting, Amen corner and Euston. Following the withdrawal of route 234, the route was extended to Selsdon in 1984 taking in the current route to Purley, and for operation reasons the route was further extended to Chelsham garage - garage journeys where it was operated by London and Country later transferring to Croydon (Beddington) garage. Around the same period the route was diverted between Mitcham and Tooting via Streatham Road and Southcroft Road.
Following a period of operation with single and double deck buses the route was won by new operator to the area
Mitcham Belle following operation by many operators namelyLondon General andBlue Triangle with new fleet of single deckers. Operational difficulties by Mitcham Belle caused a transfer of the route to Centra, a company previously operating in the Sussex area along with other Mitcham Belle route 152, 200, 201 and 493 using a mixture of ex Mitcham Belle buses and their own. Unfortunately reliability did not improve and Transport for London were forced to take the contract away from Centra. A new contract was awarded to Metrobus, finally bringing some stability to the route who actually took the contract up early using loaned vehicles from fellow go ahead operator London General until new OmniDekkas arrived when a new quality incentive contract commenced.Current route
