Declan McDonough is a fictional character from the ABC Family series Kyle XY and is portrayed by Chris Olivero.

eason 1

Declan begins season one as a normal cool kid at school. He is first seen waking up in bed with Lori. He is forced to hurry out the window. Lori sees Declan making out with another girl at a party. The next day, Lori and Hillary show up to a juice bar where Hillary pretends that Kyle is Lori's new boyfriend. This puts Declan off somewhat, however Lori arrives the following day to confess that Kyle is not her boyfriend. She tells him to come by her house that night. He does, but she is unable to sneak out because her parents awake when they hear Kyle come in from outside "looking at the stars".

Soon later, Lori ditches working at the juice bar to make out with Declan in a swimming pool. But, Declan tells her that he has to play golf with his father the following day. It turns out that he is lying and went to be with another girl.

Declan comes to see Lori at her house and asks her to go with him to Preston's party, which they do. Lori loses her virginity. After they have sex, Hillary, in a drunken state, expresses how she told Declan to ask Lori out, and Lori gets mad at both of them and leaves.

When school begins, Lori ignores Declan until he supports her when Hillary ignores Lori. Lori, still frustrated by Hillary's behavior, is mean to Declan. She tries to appologize and he tells her how he messes up all the time and it is her time to do so. Their bond becomes very strong.

A few weeks later, during a large rain storm, Declan is involved in a hit-and-run. He flees to the Tragers' house. Kyle opens up his window in the middle of the night and lets him in. Declan "crashes" on his floor that night. The following day, Lori's birthday, Declan pretends he arrived to say happy birthday to Lori and begins to gain the Tragers' respect. That afternoon, with the power out, Lori, Josh, Kyle and Amanda Bloom use a Ouija board. Kyle ends up with a number, 781227. As the rain temporarily lets up, the kids go outside where Declan makes a rude comment about the dead, ignoring the fact Amanda's dad is. Just then, Kyle tries to get them into the house but only gets them on the porch when a lightning bolt strikes a pot by where they were standing. Later, as Josh explains his theory that Kyle is an alien using his "Kyle File", Kyle gets very upset and yells at Josh. Nicole tells the kids to go upstairs. There while the kids are feeling bad for Kyle, Declan explains that he sometimes wishes he didn't have a history. Just then, the Tragers' security guard, Tom Foss, arrives at the house to tell them that blood they found on Kyle's window belonged to someone who was involved in a hit-and-run that night. Lori overhears this and speaks to Declan in her room. She prepares to yell, but realizing how good of a friend he has been to her, she just explains that he should admit it and face the consequences.

As the basketball season heads to the championship round, Charlie attempts to get Kyle onto the team. Declan does not want him on it and challenges Kyle's abilities. Charlie and Declan show up to the Tragers' house where Declan is forced to apologize and he precides to speak to Lori where he tells her the punishment for the hit-and-run. During a practice, Kyle does an amazing slam dunk, the Air Jordan. Declan attempts to match it but hurts his ankle. The coach yells at him to shake it off. During the chamipionship game, Declan gets injured again with minutes remaining. The coach threatens Declan that if he does not go back and play he'll be kicked off the team. Declan, however is unable. Kyle stands up for Declan and chooses not to play either, protesting the coach's actions. Kyle is kicked off the team as well. The rest of the team does the same and Beachwood is forced to forfeit. Declan goes to the Tragers' house where he thanks Kyle for standing up for him. Kyle realizes he's found a new friend.

A few weeks later, Kyle goes to Lori's room where he finds her and Declan talking. Declan tells them how he is going to the University of Washington over the weekend. Kyle asks to come with him because a man from his dream, Professor Kern, taught there. Declan picks up Lori and Kyle the next day. At the University, Kyle, Lori and Declan find a picture of a man who looks exactly like Kyle but from 1985. Later, Declan is flirted with by an attractive girl but denies her. However, Lori does not deny a boy clearly interested in her. That night, Declan tells Kyle that he should go for Amanda even though she is dating Charlie. The next morning, a University employee tells Kyle the name of the man in the picture, Adam Baylin. As she speaks, Lori sneaks back into the room. Another employee shows them work that Baylin did when he attended the University. As they browse, Declan tells Lori how upset he is that she slept with the other boy that night. However, Lori tells him that she didn't. As Kyle rummages, he finds a location in the woods fairly close to the University. But, Stephen Trager, Lori's dad calls them and expresses disappointment. Hillary told Mr. Trager that Declan was at The University of Washington instead of Whitman College as Lori lied. Lori takes a brief bathroom break while Kyle and Declan take the car to the location. Kyle walks into the woods and runs out of it a few minutes later. Once at the Trager home, Declan questions Kyle about what he saw. Kyle tells him that he saw Tom Foss and he told him not to ask anymore questions or the Tragers will get hurt.

Days later, Kyle realizes he has a new power, he can listen into conversations from far away. He knows he can use this to spy on Foss and enlists Declan to help. They go to the security company and Declan tells a worker that they wanted to thank Foss for getting them out of a jam. The worker gives them his address. At Foss' apartment, Kyle listens through the door and hears Nicole and Lori speaking. Kyle and Declan sneak through Foss' window as he goes out to get fast food. They then find a system of computers that Foss was using to spy on them with. As Foss returns, Kyle and Declan sneak out the window again. They then head to the Beachwood Carnival where Declan speaks to Charlie about Charlie's cheating on Amanda with Hillary. Just then, Kyle has a seizure on the Marry-Go-Round. At the hospital, Kyle tells Declan that he saw Foss and another man with a gun there. Declan insists that he tells the Tragers everything. However, at the hospital, a couple, David and Julia Peterson show up claiming Kyle (Noah) as their disappeared son.

The next day, Kyle and Declan attend Amanda's confirmation where Declan questions the Peterson's credibility. Declan and Kyle also go over all the bizarre happenings through his life. That night, after Kyle goes for a walk, he returns with memories of the Petersons. At Kyle's going away party, Declan tells Kyle that he knows there's more to this story and he wants to know what it is. Kyle explains that he would tell him if there was anything to tell. Declan storms away. Just before Kyle leaves, Declan shows up to say goodbye. Kyle tells him that he left a box in his room for him. When Declan goes to claim it, he realizes that all the memories Kyle revealed came from random things he found, not real life. They were all in the box.

eason 2

At the beginning of season two, it is revealed that his relationship with Lori is on the edge. They are seen together, but Lori identifies that something is wrong with him, similar to how her mom had been acting. Later, Kyle returns and Declan confronts him about what he was doing while he was away. Kyle refuses to tell Declan the truth about his Zyzzx or Adam, causing Declan to feel hurt and betrayed. At a bonfire, Declan breaks up with Lori, though doesn't give her a real reason why. When Lori later gives Declan a chance to explain his reasoning by inviting him over to talk ( saying "come if you ever cared about me at all"), Declan passes up this opportunity when he sees Kyle leaving the Trager's house, and decides to follow him instead, leaving Lori devastated. Declan follows Kyle to an abandoned warehouse to see him being let in by Tom Foss. After investigating this for a couple of days, Declan gets in his car to find an envelope with many pictures of him driving by the abandoned house he had followed Kyle to. The last picture is one of Lori with a giant X drawn on it, and a note attached that said,"Back off if you care about her." Declan has recently expressed interest in Jessi XX, after bumping into her on his way out of the Trager's house when he went to pick up some of his old stuff from Lori. He began dating Jessi, in which she stated that they're alike because they're both alone. They broke up, however, when Jessi was programmed at Madacorp to begin liking Kyle.

Trivia

*Hillary jokingly refers to Kyle and Declan's relationship as "Keclan" as the two became close friends and Declan became Kyle's secret-keeper. After Mada Corp is taken, Lori diagnoses Declan with Keclan withdrawal, missing his adventures with Kyle. Lori and Declan could get back together.
