- Barrett-Lennard Baronets
The Barrett-Lennard Baronetcy, of Belhus in the County of Essex, is a title in the
Baronetage of the United Kingdom . It was created on30 June 1801 for Thomas Barrett-Lennard, subsequentlyMember of Parliament for Essex South. He was the illegitimate son and testamentary heir of Thomas Barrett-Lennard, 17th Baron Dacre (seeBaron Dacre ). He was succeeded by his grandson, the second Baronet, the son of Thomas Barrett-Lennard, Member of Parliament for Maldon. His son, the third Baronet, was childless and was succeeded by his younger brother, the fourth Baronet. This line of the family failed on the death in 1977 of his son, the fifth Baronet, who died without male issue. The late Baronet was succeeded by his third cousin once removed, the sixth Baronet. He was the son of Sir Fiennes Cecil Arthur Barrett-Lennard, Chief Justice of Jamaica, son of Captain Thomas George Barrett-Lennard, son of the first marriage George Barrett-Lennard, son of John Barrett-Lennard, second son of the first Baronet. The sixth Baronet was a Catholic clergyman. He was succeeded by his second cousin, the seventh and (as of 2008) present holder of the title. 29 December 1826 –16 January 1919 ). Barrett-Lennard was the son of Thomas Barrett-Lennard and Mary Shedden, and was educated at Oxford. In 1857, he succeeded in his grandfather'sbaronetcy . He wasHigh Sheriff of Essex in 1865 andHigh Sheriff of County Monaghan in 1868. He was further aDeputy Lieutenant for Essex andCounty Monaghan in 1900, as well asJustice of Peace forEssex . Barrett-Lennard married Emma Wood, daughter of Reverend Sir John Wood, 2nd Baronet, on18 January 1853 . They had eight children: Evelyn Laura Mary Barrett-Lennard (d. 1939), married Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Ekins Blakeney Loraine, son of Sir John Loraine, 10th Baronet, on5 June 1877 ; Emma Isolda Barrett-Lennard (d. 1938), married Hon.
