August 23 1962 inSavanna-la-Mar ,Jamaica ) is an umpire inMajor League Baseball who has worked in theNational League from 1996 to 1999 and throughout both major leagues since 2000. He currently resides inBrooklyn ,New York ; he is married to Judy Ashton, and they have three children: Phoenix, Austin-Hugh, and Dakota Marie. He moved to theUnited States in 1973, and received a B.S. in Recreation Therapy from theState University of New York at Cortland in 1984. He played center field for the SUNY Cortland baseball team. He also works with the Bonnie Youth Club in Brooklyn and was inducted into the Bonnies Hall of Fame in 2000, as well as the Cortland Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2002. He was a member of the umpiring crew for the 2005 All-Star Game, and also for the2007 American League Division Series . Bucknor is actively involved with introducing and teaching baseball to children in Jamaica. Also, he collects toys and helps to organize an annual TREAT DAY - a holiday party, featuring athletic events, video games, picnics, etc. - for over 300 children in Jamaica. A hobby of his is refinishing furniture.
