The station was originally built as an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway depot. It is the closest Amtrak station to Waco, approximately 16 miles east.
Of the 19 Texas stations served by Amtrak, McGregor was the 14th-busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 12 passengers daily.[2]
