- Barbados Water Authority
Barbados Water Authority Limited (BWA) is the exclusive municipal potable water provider in
Barbados . The water supplied by the BWA in Barbados is pumped from wells within naturalcoral aquifers. The geology of Barbados is mostly composed ofkarst limestone which acts as a filter medium within the aquifers. This results in a water source of a naturally high quality. Nevertheless, the BWA treats the municipal potable water supply withchlorine to comply withWorld Heath Organization (WHO) standards. Due to high demand, the municipal water supply in Barbados is supplemented by a coastal desalination plant in Spring Garden, St. Michael. Typically, water is conveyed by pumps at the individual sources to elevated reservoirs for storage before distribution to consumers by gravity. The headquarters of the BWA are at The Pine in St Michael.External links
