The original imposing red-brick church was dedicated on November 1, 1845. A life-size statue of its patronJohn the Baptist , was placed in aNiche (architecture) over the doorway. Its parent parish was
nicheOld St. Mary's Church .The parish's annual
passion play , acted out for the first time in 1917, continued until 1972. It has the distinction of having been the longest lasting theatrical presentation in Cincinnati. The Parish was closed in 1969 and the building no longer stands. Records for St. John's Parish are located in the Archdiocese archives for years 1845-1960.The
