The parasite was first described by Landau "et al" in
1989 . Landau I., Lepers J.P., Rabetafika L., Baccam D., Peters W. and Coulanges P. (1989) "Plasmodia" of lemurs in Madagascar. Ann. Parasitol. Hum. Comp. 64(3):171-184]The infected
erythrocyte becomes enlarged and stippled. The stippling resembles Maurer's dots.The mature
