USS Seahorse

USS Seahorse

Three ships of the United States Navy have borne the name USS "Seahorse" or "Sea Horse", named in honor of the seahorse, a small fish whose head and the fore part of its body suggest the head and neck of a horse.

* was a one-gun schooner, purchased by the Navy in 1812 for service in the War of 1812. She was beached and burned to prevent capture in 1814.
* was a "Balao"-class submarine, commissioned in 1943 and struck in 1967.
* was a "Sturgeon"-class submarine, commissioned in 1969 and struck in 1995.
