The most recent topic of dispute is the healthy food policy.Fact|date=April 2007 Restrictions have been put into place with regards to the items that can be purchased in the cafeteria, commons, and vending machines. These require that all of the food being sold is relatively healthy. Because of this policy, the butter from the bagel toasting stations was temporarily removed, but reinstated due to a lack of student willingness to consume the butterless bagels.
The main question coming from teachers is, if Penfield holds this unhealthy food restriction policy, why do doughnuts and pizza still make their way into the class prizes for fundraisers?
The policies described above and further defined in the health checklist [cite news |title=Healthy School Food Policies: A Checklist |url=http://departments.oxy.edu/uepi/cfj/publications/healthy_school_food_policies_05.pdf |publisher=Mark Vallianatos |date=2005-06-01 |accessdate=2007-04-15 ] are doing much good for the Penfield community. There are a variety of healthy options, and candy is no longer being sold in the vending machines. Baked chips are being sold in the lunch lines instead of fried ones, and a Vitamin water vending machine has been set up, which is widely popular among students.
