Govandi is a rail station on
Mumbai ,India 's Central Railway - Harbour Line.Govandi also has India's largest abattoir. Govandi is a station on Mumbai Harbour line routes. On the other hand one can also find Mankhurd railway station near the highway.Deonar has most of the colonies provided by the government to their staff. One of them is Teachers colony (for Municipal school teachers). Municpal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has majority 90% of staff quarters in govandi. In fact the area got his name from here only. Then there is 600 Tenaments New Deonar Municipal Colony which has the biggest compound in Mumbai and has three buildings in the compound A-1, A-2 and B. The A-1 and A-2 is alloted to lower level like peons and other support staff and B building is alloted to officers and office staff. Also recently 3 years back two buildings for watchmen have also coem up in the compound.
It is also termed as Dumping ground of Mumbai. it also has second biggest Slums after Dharavi, the slums of Shivajinagar and Baiganwadi.Fact|date=September 2008
Govandi like other areas of Mumbai has East and West side. The west side area is of Municipal Colony Employees and poor people with few cottage and small scale industries.
On west there is Deonar Municipal Colony, Deonar Slaughter house, Shivaji Nagar, baigan Wadi, Tata Nagar and the pin code is 400043. It also has many Pharma companies which on west side there are Hindustan Bilogicals and on East side Lakme, USV Ltd etc.
It has its own Fire Station which serves the nearby areas. It also has Firemen colonies.
Govandi west has India's largest abattoir Deonar Slaughter House.
