Foundation

San Salvador was formed by five former members of Australian ska/rock band Sounds Like Chicken during its final stages. Paul McCasker was added on trumpet to complete the lineup.

Sounds Like Chicken were the first to give word on the formation of San Salvador. In February 2007, Nat Kitingan was interviewed on 100.9BFM's Undaground Radio about the new band and asked what its name would be. Reluctantly Kitingan said it was not final but San Salvador was one of the names that was being considered.

Approximately 1 month later San Salvador was officially announced as the name of the band on the Sounds Like Chicken MySpace page:"Dave, Nat, Mike, Ben, Joel and Paul are proud to announce the beginning of their new project, San Salvador. Check out their myspace at www.myspace.com/sansalvadormusic. San Salvador make their debut at AGMF this easter in Queensland."

Music

Nat Kitingan announced on an interview on 100.9BFM's Undaground Radio that Sounds Like Chicken song "As Iron Sharpens Iron" would probably be a "crossover" song, arguably making "As Iron Sharpens Iron" the first ever San Salvador song.

Fans of the newly formed San Salvador were treated to their first released track known as "Whiteness Of The Whale" on the bands myspace page in April 2007. This track was released as a limited edition demo single, available at shows.

According to set list's gathered from their shows, some initial track titles to be expected to come from San Salvador include.
*Like A Train
*Blood Point
*Lumberjack
*Shaky Hands, Empty Stomach
*Caught Up And Snatched Away
*Whiteness Of The Whale

In September 2007, the band independently released its debut EP, How To Hear which was launched at Black Stump Music Festival in Appin, New South Wales that same month.

Lineup Changes

On 16 October 2007, Ben Hobson announced he was leaving San Salvador to pursue further studies in Queensland. Although officially leaving in November 2007, Hobson made a brief comeback appearance during 2 shows at Easterfest in March 2008. The band have not announced a new bass player but have continued to play shows with Sam Rasmussen from Rubies & Rumours as a touring bass player.

On 31 March 2008, guitarist Nat Kitingan announced he will be taking a hiatus from the band for approximately 7 months to travel overseas and to live in Sweden where his wife will be studying.
