nihongo|Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University|立命館 アジア 太平洋 大学|Ritsumeikan Ajia Taiheiyō Daigaku, or APU, is a private institution inaugurated April 2000 in Ōita, Japan. APU's motto is: "Freedom, Peace, and Humanism, International Mutual Understanding and the Creation of the Future of the Asia Pacific." See also [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=211 APU Opening Declaration] Situated in an expansive campus (about 42 ha) in suburban Beppu, Oita Prefecture, APU has an enrollment of 5,421 students(May 2007). Approximately half of the students and faculty members come from outside of Japan: over 78 countries and regions.

An interesting feature of APU is its bilingual educational system in a multilingual learning environment; it offers dual language education in English and Japanese in the undergraduate colleges while the graduate programs are conducted in the English language only. Currently undergraduate programs are conducted in the College of Asia Pacific Management and College of Asia Pacific Studies. Further, highly specialized post-graduate programs are conducted in the [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=202 Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies] and [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=202 Graduate School of Management] . New student enrollment takes place twice a year, once in the spring and fall respectively. (For further information: [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=205 Admissions] ).

Apart from academic activities, this university provides ample opportunities for students to take part in extra curricular activities ranging from club activities to multi-cultural events.Full time assistance by university departments help students not only to continue their studies smoothly, but also to grasp valuable employment opportunities in leading multinational firms. During the academic year 2006, APU records 96% success rate of job placement for its students and 99.4% for international students, regardless of its short history (See also [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=206 Career] ). Continuous improvements in academic and non-academic activities facilitate this success story to continue.

In 2003, 2004 and 2005 APU was selected as a "Good Practice" university by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In 2006, APU was selected for MEXT funding, for its unique programs to support students academic activities. (See also: [http://www.apu.ac.jp/home/modules/keytopics/index.php?id=200 Our University] ) Current Japanese Educational Institutions are facing a shrinking number of students who enroll every year, largely due to population decline. In contrast, however, student enrollment at APU has increased each semester, thus warranting the opening of new facilities in 2007 to cope with greater student demand for multicultural and international institutions.
