Ernie Hicke

Ernie Hicke (born November 7, 1947 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a retired Canadian ice hockey forward.

Hicke started his National Hockey League career with the Oakland Seals in 1970. He also played for the Atlanta Flames, New York Islanders, Minnesota North Stars, and Los Angeles Kings. He left the NHL after the 1978 season. He retired from hockey after 1980.

Hicke started his hockey career in the junior league with the Regina Pats. After 5 years, he went pro hockey with the Houston Apollos of the CPHL. In Hicke's first 3 seasons of going pro, he played 139 games where he had 45 goals and 63 assists. Hicke then started his National Hockey League career with the Oakland Seals in 1970 where he joined his older brother, Billie. He played 146 games where he had 33 goals and 37 assists. He then got claimed to play for the Atlanta Flames where he played for one season before getting traded to the New York Islanders. Hicke played 76 games with them but only managed to score 21 points for the team. This was considered to be his longest career slump of scoring. Giving his career another chance, he was traded to theMinnesota North Stars where he brought up his game again with 68 goals and 53 assists. After 4 seasons with the Stars, Hicke was signed by the Los Angeles Kings. He left the NHL after the 1978 season and went to play for the CHL Dallas Black Hawks. Hicke ended his hockey career with 8 goals and 24 assists before he retired from hockey after 1980. Hicke will always be in his hockey fan's hearts because of his hard work, his dedication, and his great talents to the ice.

Ernie went on to coach the California North Stars, a Bay Area California tier youth hockey team with his son Shane. They enjoyed many years of success until a financial problem lead them to being without a home rink. After a year of splitting practice between two rinks, Ernie decided to call it quits and relocated to Las Vegas and start the Nevada Stars. His son, Shane is still coaching for the Stars 18AAA. Ernie has stopped coaching and is now spending all his time with his wife.
