William Lawrence "Bill" Hicke (
March 31 , 1938-July 18 ,2005 ) was a professionalice hockey player. A native of Regina,Saskatchewan , Hicke played for teams in the NHL, SJHL, Mem-Cup, AHL,CPHL , and the WHAAt 5'08, and 170lbs, Hicke played the position of Right Wing for the
Regina Pats from 1954 to 1958,Rochester Americans from 1958 to 1959,Montreal Canadiens from 1958 to 1965,Rochester Americans from 1958 to 1960,Cleveland Barons from 1964 to 1965,New York Rangers from 1964 to 1967,Minnesota Rangers from 1965 to 1966,Baltimore Clippers from 1966 to 1967,Oakland Seals from 1967 to 1970,California Seals from 1970 to 1971,Pittsburgh Penguins from 1971 to 1972,Tidewater Red Wings from 1971 to 1972,Fort Worth Wings from 1971 to 1972, and theAlberta Oilers from 1972 until he retired in 1973. The brother of hockey playerErnie Hicke , he was a member of the AHL First All-Star Team in 1959, recipient of the Dudley 'Red' Garrett Memorial Trophy Award for Top Rookie in the AHL in 1959, recipient of the John B. Sollenberger Trophy for Top Scorer in the AHL in 1959, recipient of theLes Cunningham Award for MVP in the AHL withRudy Migay in 1959, and in 1959, 1960, and 1969, he played in the NHL All-Star Game.From 1993 to 1994, Hicke coached and managed the
Regina Pats . In 2005 he was awarded the WHL's Governor Award. Hicke died in his native Regina, Saskatchewan, at the age of 67, after a lengthy battle with cancer.Awards & Achievements
