record label started in the late 1980s.Stephen Swid , Select Records' Jevon Tompkins, Martin Bandier, andCharles Koppelman formed the production company SBK in 1989 after they purchased the music publishing division ofCBS Records in 1986.The partners sold the company to
EMI Music Publishing (for a reported $295 million), and launched SBK Records. It was distributed throughCapitol Records , and later the short-lived EMI Records Group North America, or ERG. In 1989,Daniel Glass joined SBK as Senior Vice President of Promotion. In 1990, Glass was promoted to Executive Vice President/General Manager. With the consolidation of SBK, Chrysalis, and EMI Records USA several years later into "EMI Record Group North America," he rose to President/CEO.The label had several hits with
Vanilla Ice ,Clayton Kirk ,Boy George ,Wilson Phillips ,Technotronic , Blur andTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles .SBK Records was a part of The EMI Group, but is not currently releasing new records. Martin Bandier until 2007 ran EMI's music publishing division. He now runs Sony Corp.'s Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
SBK is also famed for signing the first Latino rapper, famed
Rock Steady Crew MC Ray Roll, and the first female crossover Latin artistSelena .The 1994 Album from
Milla Jovovich , "The Divine Comedy" was released through SBK and was critically acclaimed. The album has still got support since it's launch byCapitol Records See also
