A329 road across theRiver Thames nearShillingford ,Oxfordshire , connecting the village toWallingford . It crosses the Thames on the reach betweenBenson Lock andDay's Lock , and is said to be exactly half-way between Reading andOxford on the river.A bridge is mentioned in records from 1300 and 1370, but not in the 1400s. A ferry operated across the river until the building of a wooden bridge with stone piers in 1763, later replaced by the current decorated stone arch bridge in 1827. [Fred. S. Thacker "The Thames Highway: Volume II Locks and Weirs" 1920 - republished 1968 David & Charles] It is 17'3" high, with 3 arches and a
balustrade . It can only take a single lane of traffic, and is controlled by traffic lights. The [http://www.shillingfordbridgehotel.com Shillingford Bridge Hotel] sits on the south bank next to the bridge. The Swan hotel was in existence on this site in 1608.
