Stefan G. Rasmussen

Stefan G. Rasmussen (b. 23 July 1947 in Randers, Denmark) trained as pilot in Danish Air Force, graduated from Williams Air Force Base, Arizona in 1973 (class 74-01).

On December 27, 1991, he was the Captain of SAS flight 751, an MD-81, OY-KHO who crashlanded at Gottröra, Sweden. In the initial climb both engines ingested ice breaking loose from the wings, which had not been properly deiced before departure. Both engines destroyed, leaving the aircraft with no propulsion. The aircraft landed in a field and broke in three parts. No fire broke out and all aboard the plane survived. Rasmussen was later decorated by the Danish Queen for his outstanding and professional performance.

Rasmussen has received several recognitions like: IATA Polaris Award, IAPA Outstanding Service Award, Aviation Week & Space Tecnologi Laurals Award and Hall of Fame recognition, The Golden Medal from the Swedish King.

Rasmussen was a member of the Danish Parliament from 1994 to 1996 but had to stop due to suffering from a tinnitus that he got after the SAS flight 751 incident. Today he is a lecturer and author.
