Bishop ofPeterborough is theOrdinary of theChurch of England Diocese of Peterborough in theProvince of Canterbury .The diocese covers the counties of
Northamptonshire ,Rutland and theSoke of Peterborough inCambridgeshire and has its see in the City ofPeterborough , where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church ofSaint Peter , Saint Paul andSaint Andrew .The Bishop's residence is Bishop's Lodging, The Palace, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
The office has been in existence since the foundation of the diocese on
4 September 1541 under King Henry VIII. The incumbent is the Right Reverend Dr.Ian Patrick Martyn Cundy DD, 37th Lord Bishop of Peterborough, who signs "Ian Petriburg".The current Lord Bishop is one of the 26 diocesan bishops who sit in the
House of Lords asLords Spiritual .As parts of the City of Peterborough are actually in the
Diocese of Ely (those parishes south of theRiver Nene ), the current Bishop of Peterborough has also been appointed as anAssistant Bishop in the Diocese of Ely with pastoral care for these parishes delegated to him by theBishop of Ely . [cite news
