The district goes back to the "
Mueang " Sawang Daen Din, which was converted into an "Amphoe" during the "thesaphiban" administrative reforms around 1900.In 1939 it was renamed from Ban Han to Sawang Daen Din. The district is subdivided into 16 subdistricts ("
tambon "), which are further subdivided into 178 villages ("muban "). There are two townships ("thesaban tambon ") - Sawang Daen Din covers parts of "tambon" Sawang Daen Din, and Don Chiang covers parts of "tambon" Waeng. There are further 16 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).Missing numbers are "tambon" which now form Charoen Sin district.References
