Jan Keizer (singer)

Jan Keizer (born: 3 April 1949, Volendam, Holland) is a Dutch singer and composer. He was the male lead vocal of the recently disbanded Dutch popband BZN, as it currently pursuing a solo career.

His musical career began in Empty Hearts (sometimes known as Empty) as a drum player. Two years later, Thomas Tol, the guitar player, left the band to take piano lessons, bringing the band to an end. However, Jan renamed the band the Q-Tips, a close harmony band, where he sang alongside Lida Bont, and later George Baker Selection.

During his time with the Q-Tips, Jan was working as a mason for Jack Veerman's father. In 1974, Jan joined BZN, where he took over from Jaap Sombroek, who previously was a drum player in that band. On 17 October of that same year, the band's lead singer, Jan Veerman, left the band, so Jan took his place. It was with BZN that Jan's singing career really took off.

On 19 August 1999, just before a television performance, Jan visited his G.P, who sent him into hospital. It was discovered that he had suffered a minor heart attack and needed immediate surgery. He underwent a quadruple bypass to ensure his heart would function normally again. Jan rejoined the band on January 21 2001.

Also in 2000, Jan started his first French language solo album. Later, two more solo albums followed, with music from the 1960s.

Together with Jan Tuijp and Jack Veerman he owns a production company: JJJ Productions. This company produces albums and writes songs for Tamara among others and in the past for Jantje Smit, their inspiration.
