Zolochiv ( _uk. Золочів, _pl. Złoczów) is a town located in the
Lviv Oblast (province) of westernUkraine . It is the administrative center of theZolochivsky Raion (district).Zolochiv was incorporated as a town on 15 September 1523 by the Polish king
Sigismund I the Old . Located in theRuthenian Voivodship of thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealth , it belonged to several noble families. In 1772, following theFirst Partition of Poland , it was annexed byAustria , and in 1918, following theWorld War One , it passed to Poland. Zolochiv, known then as Złoczów, belonged to theTarnopol Voivodship until thePolish September Campaign , when it was occupied by theSoviet Union .
