Rail companies using the G26 locomotives today include: Australian Railroad Group, Freight Australia, ONCF, Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, Croatian Railways, Israel Railways, Korail, and more. They were acquired to increase traction capacities on the tracks which supported lesser axle pressure. The locomotives were intended for hauling freight and passenger trains on the mainlines.

Australia

The Victorian Railways purchased 24 G26C locomotives locally built by Clyde Engineering, known as the X class. [cite web

Queensland Rail purchased 102 GL26C-2 locomotives in 1970, locally built by Comeng for Clyde Engineering, and known as the 2100 class. Ten of the 2100 class have since been sold to Chile. [cite web

Croatia

It is designated as HŽ series 2062 in the Croatian Railways. Several have been upgraded to 2062 subseries 100. The main usage for the series is in Lika, Dalmatia, Istria and smaller percentage in Slavonia. The -100 subseries is used only in Lika-Dalmatia.
