World War II . InJozef Tiso 's AxisWWII Slovak Republic , it took part in the German invasion of Poland (specifically, theSlovak invasion of Poland ) in 1939 and the invasion of theSoviet Union in1941 .In October of
1939 it returned to Slovakia and was upgraded to a fully motorized division. As the Fast Troops Group "Kalinčiak it took part inOperation Barbarossa in1941 , advancing underArmy Group South . In 1943 the Fast Division was reconstructed and the 1st Infantry Division was formed from the Fast Division in August of that year. However, the 1st Infantry Division saw very little action and was used for rear area duties until it was disbanded in July 1944 to form construction units.OOB
