The school is undergoing a 92 million dollar renovation project. The district is adding a new 3 story wing. The renovation also includes renovation of the existing building and construction of a new gymnasium which includes an indoor soccer field. Construction of the new cafeteria was complete December of last year. The new cafeteria has a college design right down to serving lines and table set up.
The necessary renovation effort comes to a loss of local history. To make room for expansion, the district plans to demolish the historic eighteenth century J.S. Bunnell School, just adjacent to the current high school. The bunnell once housed grades 1 through 12 during the first half of the 1900s and latter became a junior high. The district plans to start tearing down the gym annex February 29 of this year. Classes will continue to be held in the main building until December 2008.
The current spot of the Bunnell School will be made into a faculty parking area. Another building to be torn down is the Current District Administration building, which was in the past, North Courtland Elementary School.
