James Swan (born
July 6 ,1974 inAlice Springs, Northern Territory ) is abantamweight boxer fromAustralia , who represented his native country at two consecutiveSummer Olympics , starting in 1996.Twice at
Commonwealth Games level, in Victoria in1994 and at the1998 Commonwealth Games inKuala Lumpur , he has won a bronze medal. Swan has also won medals at other international events. Swan was a gold medal winner in his division, the 57kg, at both the Multi Nations Tournament in theUnited Kingdom in1996 , and the Arafura Games in1997 and won a bronze medal at the 1998 World Cup inPR China .Swan had to battle for a place on the team for Sydney, fighting off a strong challenge from
Anthony Little in the final of the Oceania Championships, the Olympic qualifying tournament. The bout was tough and close but eventually Swan prevailed 9-7.Swan was born in Alice Springs and raised in the
Northern Territory . In1995 he was named the "Northern Territory’s Young Sports Achiever of the Year".References
