James Swan (boxer)

James Swan (born July 6, 1974 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory) is a bantamweight boxer from Australia, who represented his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1996.

Twice at Commonwealth Games level, in Victoria in 1994 and at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, he has won a bronze medal. Swan has also won medals at other international events. Swan was a gold medal winner in his division, the 57kg, at both the Multi Nations Tournament in the United Kingdom in 1996, and the Arafura Games in 1997 and won a bronze medal at the 1998 World Cup in PR China.

Swan had to battle for a place on the team for Sydney, fighting off a strong challenge from Anthony Little in the final of the Oceania Championships, the Olympic qualifying tournament. The bout was tough and close but eventually Swan prevailed 9-7.

Swan was born in Alice Springs and raised in the Northern Territory. In 1995 he was named the "Northern Territory’s Young Sports Achiever of the Year".
