Born in
Lambertville, New Jersey onNovember 25 ,1908 , Hunt attendedNewark Business School for three years. He then went on to theNew Jersey State Police Academy ,Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy ,Harvard School of Police Science , andUnited States Army Intelligence School . From 1942 to 1946, he served in theUnited States Army as the Combat Intelligence Officer with the 456th Bomb Group, where he earned a Bronze Star ,Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters,Purple Heart , and a Presidential Unit Citation with oak leaf cluster.Political career
Hunt's first elected position was as the sheriff of
Gloucester County, New Jersey , from 1959 to 1963, when he was elected to theNew Jersey Senate . He then served as the representative to New Jersey's 1st congressional district fromJanuary 3 ,1967 toJanuary 3 ,1975 . He lost the 1974 election to futureGovernor of New Jersey ,James Florio .Hunt lived in
