John Henry Vandenburg (
18 December 1904 –3 June 1992 ) was the ninth Presiding Bishop ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) between 1961 and 1972. He also served as anAssistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles between 1972 and 1976 and a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy between 1976 and 1978. He was designated anemeritus general authority in 1978.Vandenburg was born in Ogden,
Utah to aLatter-day Saint immigrant couple from theNetherlands . As a young man, he attendedWeber Academy and in 1925 began a mission to the Netherlands, where he met his future wife, a young Dutch convert named Ariena Stok. They were married in theSalt Lake Temple on10 June 1930 and were the parents of two daughters.ee also
