Richard Crockett Edgley (born
6 February 1936 ) has been the first couselor in the presiding bishopric ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since27 December 1995 . Edgley has been ageneral authority of the LDS Church since October 1992.Born in Preston,
Idaho , Edgley was called to be the second counselor to Presiding BishopRobert D. Hales in 1992. In 1994, whenMerrill J. Bateman replaced Hales as presiding bishop, Edgley was again called to be second counselor. When former first counselorH. David Burton was made presiding bishop in 1996, Edgley was called as First Counselor.Edgley is married to Pauline Nielson, with whom he has had six children. Prior to his call as a general authority, Edgley was a vice president of
General Mills and a managing director of the Finance and Records Department of the church. He has degrees fromBrigham Young University andIndiana University . As a young man, he served as aMormon missionary in the easternUnited States and has been a local bishop and astake president in the church.See also
