Incorporation (academic)

Incorporation (academic)

Incorporation is a university academic practice—particularly at the University of Oxford where it goes back at least to 1516—of awarding a degree based on the student having an equivalent degree from another university. Incorporation is a way viewing a degree from another university as if it were an Oxford Degree. It is particularly used for the Master of Arts degree, which historically grants various rights of governing the university, to those holding a College Fellowship, University Lectureship, or Professorship, and other positions in the university. This ensures these rights are available to all who should have them, regardless of where they originally received their degrees.
