North Hertfordshire College ("NHC") is a further education college operating mainly in North Hertfordshire, with 29,000 enrolments in 2005-06. The College is based across 3 main campuses in Stevenage and Hitchin, with a purpose built Management Centre in Letchworth Garden City, and a vocational skills centre, opened in 2008 and expanded in autumn 2009, also in Stevenage. NHC employs 500 staff and about 300 part time and specialist agency workers.

The College has a flexible curriculum to meet the needs of the labour force and to help people participate in the local economy.[citation needed] The College operates a range of community partnerships in North Hertfordshire.

The College has been accredited with Investors in People four times and achieved Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status in Management in 2002, and CoVE status in Sports & Fitness Coaching in 2006. The College has achieved the Customer First Award at the Goldsmith Management Centre.[citation needed]

The College restructured in 2006, and now operates through six Academies:

  • Community & Health Services
  • Creative & Cultural Industries
  • Employment Services
  • Sport, Health & Wellbeing
  • Technology Services
  • Sixth(VI) Form

The curriculum is delivered at each of the College’s campuses, at a range of outreach locations, learning shops in community venues, schools and a football club, and other venues agreed with local employers and community/business partners. The College is committed to developing extensive community links and part of the curriculum is successfully delivered offsite through its Community Partnerships Department.[citation needed]

The College offers support to learners through its Student Services team, which operates across the whole College and includes a pro-active Students’ Union.
