Pakubuwono XII

Pakubuwono XII

Pakubuwono XII (also transliterated Pakubuwana XII) (born 1944, died 11 June 2004) was the twelfth Susuhunan (ruler of Surakarta) and the longest ruling of all monarchs in Javanese history.

Upon his death with no clear heir, two of his half-brothers claimed the throne. The older, Hangabehi, took control of the kraton (palace) and expelled his younger half-brother Tejowulan; each had himself crowned Pakubuwono XIII, and they held separate tomb-sealing rituals for their father. As of February 2008, the dispute has not been resolved; the Indonesian government has remained neutral.
