The focus of Operation Better Block is to promote and revitalize the Homewood-Brushton Community, which is located in a minority populated section in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Operation Better Block is a non profit organization. It was created as a result of the Better Block Development Corporation of Pittsburgh Pa, and in 1970 it became incorporated.[1] OBB takes part in revitalizing the community and preventing it from falling into decay. This is done through various homing and educational programs.
The development program includes building and providing housing for lower income families, plus community organization. The educational program consists of collaboration with the local elementary schools and high schools. OBB will soon provide computer-training programs for high-school seniors that are graduating. Operation Better Block is also currently trying to publish a booklet for the promotion of Homewood.
The organization provides these services to the whole Homewood-Brushton neighborhood. The yearly operating budget is approximately $302,000, part of which is contributed by United Way.
