NaturoPack

NaturoPack

NaturoPack is a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization that raises awareness, educates and advocates for the use and promotion of environmentally responsible packaging.

NaturoPack state that their role is to inform the public and industry about the various effects of packaging; to provide resources about sustainable solutions to combat the adverse environmental impact of needless packaging; to encourage companies to change packaging methods; and to convince the governments of the need to support sustainability in the packaging industry. [1] Their website provides information and resources on the subject of sustainable packaging, as well as their details of their current campaign and petition to ban foam (also known as EPS) in Toronto.

Campaigns

Their current campaign, entitled "Get It To Go Green" was launched in January 2007. [2] This campaign is designed to ban the use of Styrofoam from Toronto's food and beverage industry, and urge Toronto's restaurants and cafes to use sustainable take-out containers as an eco-friendly alternative to the plastic, paper and foam that is typically used.[3][4]

"There's really no viable recycling solution to styrofoam. You can't take a styrofoam container and make it into another styrofoam container," Farrah Khan, NaturoPack founder.[4]

Other cities have achieved bans on EPS in food containers,[5][6] and NaturoPack hope to help Toronto get the first ban in Canada.
