Varshney (or Barahseni) is a version of a name first used by
Arjuna to addressKrishna in theMahābhārata (Chapter 1,Shloka 41,Swami Sivananda translation). There is some debate over whether Varshneys belong to theVaishya (merchants and artisans) orKshatriya (warriors, rulers and politicians)caste .Fact|article|date=August 2007Varshneys are the progenies of Shri Akrur Ji Maharaja. Varshney Community is primarily based in western UP and traditionally represents the traders’ community. However, presently the Varshney community represents well-educated strata of society which can boast of having professionals ( Doctors, Engineers, CA’s etc), Civil Servants ( IAS, PCS etc), Entrepreneurs, in addition to the conventional business of trading. Now Varshneys could be found anywhere in India and in most of the developed countries
