Shedefeated the incumbentSamajwadi Party legislator Yogendra Kumar Garg alias Kunnu Babu with a margin of 13,400 votes (10%). That was called the revenge of the mother for her son, as her son VIKAS YADAV(well known for Jaisica Lal and Nitish Katara murder case) was defeted by kunnu babu in the last election. Mr Ashok Kumar Varshney is the chairman of the municipal corporation and earlier his wife Mrs Kamlesh Varshney was the chairperson.He defeted mr Abrar Ahamad with a margin of 180 votes.He was suspended of the office for last year because of some charges but finally he managed to come back to his office in august 2008 as court disqualified the case.
