History
Gorham High School received national media attention on January 4, 2008, when the administration was forced to cancel classes for a day after an apparent senior prank. School administrators arrived at the building to find snow and ice blocking the locks and doors outside of the school. Due to town fire codes, the building was closed until all of the exits could be thawed and cleared.[1]
Academics
Gorham High offers a diverse curriculum including AP courses and electives to adequately prepare students for college, as well as vocational programs to prepare students to enter specific careers.
Athletics
Gorham, competing in Western Maine Class A, participates in fourteen varsity sports: Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Indoor Track, Lacrosse, Soccer, Cheerleading, Tennis, Track, Field Hockey, Volleyball, and Softball.
Theatre
In the Spring of 2011, Gorham High school took 1st place at the Regional One Acts Class A Competition and then 1st place at the State One Acts Class A Competition with George Brant's play 'Elephant's Graveyard', which is based on a true story from 1916 about the execution of a circus elephant named Mary in the small town of Erwin, Tennessee.
