Chemokine (C motif) ligand 2 (XCL2) is a small cytokine belonging to the XC chemokine family that is highly related to another chemokine called XCL1. [cite journal |author=Kennedy J, Kelner G, Kleyensteuber S, Schall T, Weiss M, Yssel H, Schneider P, Cocks B, Bacon K, Zlotnik A |title=Molecular cloning and functional characterization of human lymphotactin |journal=J Immunol |volume=155 |issue=1 |pages=203–9 |year=1995 |pmid=7602097] It is predominantly expressed in activated T cells, but can also be found at low levels in unstimulated cells. XCL2 induces chemotaxis of cells expressing the chemokine receptor XCR1. [cite journal |author=Yoshida T, Imai T, Kakizaki M, Nishimura M, Takagi S, Yoshie O |title=Identification of single C motif-1/lymphotactin receptor XCR1 |journal=J Biol Chem |volume=273 |issue=26 |pages=16551–4 |year=1998 |pmid=9632725 |doi=10.1074/jbc.273.26.16551] Its gene is located on chromosome 1 in humans. [cite journal |author=Yoshida T, Imai T, Takagi S, Nishimura M, Ishikawa I, Yaoi T, Yoshie O |title=Structure and expression of two highly related genes encoding SCM-1/human lymphotactin |journal=FEBS Lett |volume=395 |issue=1 |pages=82–8 |year=1996 |pmid=8849694 |doi=10.1016/0014-5793(96)01004-6]
