Year Eight

Year Eight

In schools in England, Wales and Australia Year Eight is the eighth year of schooling after Reception. It is the second year in secondary school or the first year of High School and the second year of Key Stage 3. Children's ages range between 12 and 13 years of age.

In Northern Ireland, Year 8, otherwise known as First Form, is the eighth year of compulsory education when pupils are eleven or twelve years old. It is the first year of Secondary education.

Year 8 only came into force in England and Wales in 1990. Previously, this stage of education had been known as Year 2 (even in schools where pupils started at 12 instead of 11).
