Sterzing (Italian: "Vipiteno", archaic "Sterzen"; Archaic (1180 AD) "Sterzengum"; Archaic (827 AD): "Uuipitina"; , Latin: "Vipitenum") is an Italian comune in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. It is the main village of the southern Wipptal, and the Isarco River flows through the medieval town.

According to the 2001 census, 75% of the population speaks German as first language, 24.7% Italian and 0.3% Ladin.

Main sights

Torre delle Dodici ("Zwölferturm"), a 46 m-high tower erected in 1470. Outside the city is the "Reifenstein Castle", one of the best preserved medieval castle in the province.
