- Orquesta Riverside
-
Orquesta Riverside were a Cuban musical group that became one of the most acclaimed Cuban orchestras of the 1940s and 50s. The orchestra was formed in the late '30s, and in the beginning was directed by local musician Enrique González Mantici. In 1947, that honor was taken by saxophone player Pedro Vila. During the '50s, Orquesta Riverside's Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms were celebrated throughout Latin America.
Members included Tito Gómez who joined in 1939, and Manuel "Guajiro" Mirabal Vazquez (later of Afro-Cuban All Stars) who joined in 1960.[1]
