- Okizeme
-
A concept originating from fighting games, okizeme is a term of Japanese origin describing the tactical situation during a match where one fighter has been knocked down onto his or her back. While the downed fighter's options are severely limited, many fighting games grant various techniques to allow them opportunities to recover momentum and/or defend against subsequent attacks. Most notable of these is the Tekken series.
In the real world, this concept can be seen in various Mixed Martial Arts matches where the dynamic of a fight changes drastically once one of the fighters is knocked onto his or her back. Certain fighting styles, such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, specialize in these situations.
