America is a town in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of
Horst aan de Maas , and lies about 16 km northwest ofVenlo . Its name gives rise to jokingly confusing remarks (but note that the name of the continent is spelled "Amerika" in Dutch). There are some well-known stories of people receiving mail a year overdue after the mail has travelled around the world Fact|date=February 2007.In 2001, the town of America had 991 inhabitants.
