album released in 2000 to accompany theDarren Aronofsky film "Requiem for a Dream ". The soundtrack was composed byClint Mansell and performed by theKronos Quartet .Details
Mansell's score was his follow-up to the score he composed for Aronofsky's first film, "π", and has since become a cult hit. The music is notable for its use of sharp, often
staccato 'un-vibrato -ed'string instrument s to create a cold and discomforting sound from instruments frequently used for their warmth and softness (an effect pioneered in film soundtracks byBernard Hermann ).The soundtrack has been widely praised, and in particular, the track "Lux Aeterna" (which itself is much used in the film) has subsequently been used in various forms of media. The theme was reorchestrated for "" trailer [ [http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20021117/ANSWERMAN/211170301 Answer Man] rogerebert.com Retrieved on
May 2 2007 .] and is known by the name "Requiem for a Tower ". The theme has been displayed in trailers for other films, including the "The Da Vinci Code", "Zathura", "300", "Sunshine" and "Valley of Flowers ". It also appeared in the television show "Lost", the video game "Assassin's Creed ",NASCAR promotions, PGA tour coverage, and a special edition of the BBC program Top Gear. Use of the theme extended to the point where it is interchangeable with the name "Requiem for a Dream".The soundtrack for "Requiem for a Dream" also confirmed its popularity with the
remix album "Requiem for a Dream: Remixed", which contained new mixes of the music byPaul Oakenfold ,Josh Wink ,Jagz Kooner , andDelerium , amongst others. However the track "Requiem for a Tower" was not included on this remix album.listen

* The song "Supermarket Sweep" on the soundtrack is named after Aronofsky's senior thesis film he made at
Harvard University . [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365809/]* One of the tracks, "Crimin' & Dealin'", is most likely a reference to the
Beastie Boys song "Rhymin' & Stealin'" from their album "Licensed to Ill ". This is made more likely because the song was sampled in thePop Will Eat Itself song "Hit the Hi-Tech Groove". In the commentary for the film, the director, Darren Aronofsky, spoke about listening tohip-hop music as a teenager, which makes the connection even more plausible. Also, both Aronofsky and Beastie Boy Adam Yauch attended Edward R. Murrow High School albeit several years apart.References
